Women can’t leave their homes without a male escort. Women aren’t allowed to work outside their homes or make their own choices. Girls can’t go to school. This is the devastating reality for Afghan women and girls under the Taliban’s control and capture of Afghanistan. This International Women’s Day, we must support courageous leaders like Dr. Sakena Yacoobi, Onaba Payab, and Roya Mahboob. They are some of the many brave women advocating for a better life for the girls of Afghanistan. They are providing hope and opportunity where it may seem like none exists. We are grateful for these brave women. We must all remember the remarkable resiliency that Afghan women have, and we must support them. The Bush Institute recently released the “Captured State” series. The papers detail the Taliban’s brutal oppression of women and children. Link in bio. #internationalwomensday2024
