“You can’t just agree to disagree. When you have an agreement, first, how do you settle it? It's not an issue of dispute, it’s how you settle the dispute. When you do settle it, what kind of authority does it have?... Is there a way in which questions get settled permanently? Those are basic questions that any community has to answer.”

Root is a native of Norfolk, Virginia and studied at Dartmouth College (B.A.) and Yale University (Ph.D. in theology). He was received into the Catholic Church in August, 2010.
