A double life blended with singular accomplishment.
As chief executive of The Macallan from 1979 to 1996 and a Hollywood screenwriter, Allan Shiach moved masterfully between the worlds of single malt whisky and the silver screen.
His breakout screenplay Don’t Look Now – written under nom du plume Alan Scott – was followed by a string of successes. Most recently, Allan was credited as a co-creator of the hit Netflix show The Queen’s Gambit, after spotting the potential of the story decades earlier.
Allan’s patience, creative flair and prolific work ethic served him equally well in leading The Macallan. Building its reputation and preserving exceptional quality, his legacies in both sherry-seasoned oak and the film industry are exemplary – and were recently united in the screen homage to his Great Aunt Nettie in our epic short film - The Spirit of 1926.
