As daylight wanes on this Winter Solstice ❄️, we're thinking back on #PAFartist James Yamada's illuminating 2008 exhibition "Our Starry Night". Built from powder coated aluminum and punctuated with 1,900 colored LED lights in centralparknyc's Doris C. Freedman Plaza, Yamada's twelve-foot-tall sculpture acted as an interactive passageway into the park. As visitors walked through the sculpture, they triggered a metal detector that activated the LED lights that perforate the exterior of the sculpture. At all hours of the day and night, it illuminated in response to each person individually.
