This stained glass image of John Harvard can be found in the chapel at Emmanuel College, his alma mater.
After receiving both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Emmanuel College, John Harvard and his wife sailed to New England and settled in Charlestown, Massachusetts. When he died in 1638, he left half of his estate and his personal library to a newly founded college in Cambridge. The following year, the Massachusetts General Court named the college, now Harvard University, in his honor.
This stained glass at Emmanuel College was completed in 1884, as part of the commemoration of the college’s 300th anniversary.
