History of science concentrator London Vallery says she had plenty of opportunities to grow and learn while at Harvard College. “I’m definitely now more confident as a scholar and as a researcher, and as someone who wants to contribute something to my field,” she said. While at Harvard, London Vallery accomplished one of her lifelong dreams: joining the unaffiliated, off-campus social organization Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA), the first ever Black sorority in the U.S., established in 1908. “The majority of the women in my family are in AKA and it has such a strong emphasis on scholarship,” she said. --- We’re highlighting graduates participating in #Harvard22’s Affinity graduation ceremonies. These student-led, staff-supported events aim to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of graduates from historically marginalized and underrepresented communities.
