Neuroscience concentrator Kailey Nicholson fondly remembers the impact community had on her years at Harvard College, especially during the pandemic. “My community came together exactly how I wanted it to and exactly how I envisioned it when I was entering college, even if our experiences weren’t exactly what I was expecting,” she said.
Ahead of the Lavender graduation, Kailey encouraged incoming students, especially queer youth, to find their own community at school. “You find your own people and your own community, and regardless of what that looks like, there’s no right way to be LGBT or be queer. As long as it’s true to you, it’s what you should be doing, so don’t get bogged down in the details,” she said.

We’re highlighting graduates participating in #Harvard22’s Affinity graduation ceremonies. These student-led, staff-supported events aim to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of graduates from historically marginalized and underrepresented communities.
