A recipient of the Intellectual Contribution Award, Daniela García Estrella says her interest in higher education stems from the challenges she faced as an undergraduate and the on-campus support she received during that time. “I came to the Ed School to understand how higher education institutions operate and to explore potential career paths in higher education,” she said.
During the pandemic, students were facing food insecurity without school meals, as well as dealing with mental health concerns and social-emotional learning issues. While many people were already familiar with the inequities that exist in education, Daniela says that during the pandemic more began to realize "just how inequitable it is."
"The pandemic serves as a reminder that schools do not only provide academic services, but much needed social services as well," she says. ---
