South Carolina native Izzy Goodchild-Michelman spent six weeks working for Hub City Urban Farm in Spartanburg, S.C., this summer. The nonprofit farm provides agricultural education and delivers and sells homegrown food to parts of Spartanburg County where getting to a grocery store can take as long as 90 minutes over multiple bus rides.
During her time at Hub City Urban Farm, Goodchild-Michelman helped write grants and worked to revamp the educational "Seed to Table" curriculum for elementary and middle school students. “I knew I wanted to do something impactful, and not just a project that I thought was important, but one that would be addressing an issue that was there,” she said.
