Ashley LaLonde is a freshman who performed as Lula Buffington, a young gospel singer from the South, in americanrep's production of “Violet on a Moving Bus.” She writes, “Performing was an incredible experience. The show tells a compelling story about self-worth and the meaning of beauty. As a young woman of color, Violet's journey spoke to me. Although the character deals with degrading judgment and disrespect from those around her, she eventually overcomes and looks within herself for strength.
