#BareFeetDNA started airing on PBS, I started experiencing foot pain. I think it was my body trying to tell me to slow down - I mean, my show is called Bare Feet, it wasn’t a coincidence.

I kept dancing, and I pushed through it, preparing for a 12-episode Season 4. But my feet, specifically my right foot, was getting worse. At that point, I could no longer walk. By Christmas, I felt the fascia in my right foot tear and unravel in excruciating pain. I was devastated - I could barely walk, let alone dance. For a while, I thought I would never dance again. But with the momentum of Season 4, funding, pre-production, & sponsorship demands, I knew I couldn’t stop.

Then came March 2020. It literally took a global pandemic to give myself the permission to slow down. I went from someone who made it her job to dance with strangers to someone who was immobile and winced at the thought of the pain dancing would bring me.
