Representation matters. I believe this to be true in every industry. Even more in leadership roles. I was offered a Lead Brewer role at the Centre St. location a few months ago and turned it down several times. It was a bit overwhelming, unsure if I could succeed. The expectations of a management role in production for OH are very high. I mean we are brewing your juiciest, crunchiest, coconutiest, chocolatiest beers after all. How could I lead? Where would I begin. So, I had to check myself. What’s the whole point of trying to empower women of color in this industry if I am failing to empower myself? How can I encourage Latinas to keep going if I’m telling myself to stop right there? Seriously. What was I thinking? Listen, promotions can be scary. But damn it, this felt right. I am standing alongside other Chingonas in this industry who are in lead brewing roles. And one day, I’ll be standing alongside those same Chingonas in Head Brewer roles. And then one day… Well, time will on...
