Aalo Atomics is building small nuclear reactors that can fit in a garage and power anything from a small data center to, if you build several, a large city. Their mission is to achieve electricity costs of 3¢/kWh, which would be the cheapest clean electricity source on the market!
Their first product will be the Aalo-1, a 10 MWe sodium-cooled reactor using low-enriched uranium fuel, based on the MARVEL reactor design from Idaho National Laboratory.
Aalo has signed agreements with the DOE to site their first Aalo-1 reactor at the INL site in Idaho. This involves selecting a parcel of land, conducting environmental assessments, and collaborating with local stakeholders.
In parallel, Aalo plans to build a full-scale non-nuclear prototype of the Aalo-1 to test and refine the design after completing the conceptual design phase. They are also preparing for regulatory submittals and licensing.
Aalo plans to leverage data from INL's MARVEL reactor, which just received approval to begin con...
