Making your week brighter it’s Wattage Wednesday! Today we will be taking a look at NuScale’s VOYGR- 12. NuScale’s 77MWe allows the plant to scale to be the right size for the community it supports, from as little as 77MWe for one unit, up to 924MWe for their flagship 12-pack. This compact size makes the VOYGR-12 well-suited for locations with limited available space, such as retired coal plant sites. It can also run continuously, allowing it to potentially serve as an emergency backup power source after a major infrastructure failure, powering critical facilities for an extended period without resupply. In August 2022, the VOYGR-12 became the first SMR to receive design approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission after completing the final safety evaluation review phase.
