TWO LIGHTHOUSES?! The tiny red circle in this historic photograph shows the first lighthouse in the distance — The Old Spanish Watchtower! The St. Augustine Lighthouse in the foreground was built from 1871-1874. The first tower fell into the ocean by 1880! The second Lighthouse turns 150 in October 2024 and we are celebrating! The tower’s First Order Fresnel Lens was first lit on October 15th, 1874 and a special 150th birthday celebration will take place this year on October 15. A kickoff celebration for the year-long anniversary is planned for Monday, October 14 through Friday, October 18, 2024.
