If there ever was a place that felt most unlike Earth, Death Valley would be it. The lack of sound at night, the unbearable midday heat, the colorless horizon in a valley of dirt and sand. There are so many factors that make this alien landscape offputting, and yet I want nothing more than to be back. It’s as if my first experience there was a dream of a place that never existed- only the imagination could construct the Valley’s features.
