My first time traveling through New York City was spent with 7 other guys crammed into a van. I was touring with Silent Planet at the time as their videographer, and was fortunate enough to see many places during those weeks. The funny thing about my first encounter with the big city, was that I didn't see it at all. It was only recently that I discovered that we had passed through the tunnel alongside Manhattan shown in this photo, and we were in fact facing Roosevelt Island. It was around midnight during this drive, and being disoriented from tour left me thinking that the few buildings in my view were in fact the magnificent Manhattan I had always heard about. At the time, I was both a little disappointed while still in awe at how bright this city was, even well into the night. The reveal of knowing now that this confusion was justified is somewhat of a relief.
