Emphasis: Lateral Change of Direction
(1) Test Battery. We see the athlete have some issues creating an efficient angle when attempting to change directions in/out of the shuffle. As shown, (2) the angle that is produced is approximately 59 degrees.
(3) We take the athlete and perform some corrective exercises (low box drills) and try to develop a better strategy where the athlete can produce a better angle to change directions (decelerate-accelerate). As shown, (4) we see the angle reduced to 52 degrees in an effort to withstand the forces produced by the mass and the additional force from the band.
(5) Now we get the athlete back into the movement (Lateral Shuffle) to see how they move after performing the corrective exercise(s). The result, (6), is that we now have an angle of 48 degrees. That’s a GREAT improvement, decrease 11 degrees, in a short amount of time.
