An empty Berkeley warehouse caught on fire early Wednesday morning, triggering three alarms and a partial roof collapse of the building. According to a Berkeley Fire Department press release, a fire crew first received a report around 2:42 a.m. of a grass fire at 701 Heinz Avenue, a vacated commercial building in Southwest Berkeley. The release states that an electrical transformer “caught fire and exploded,” causing a power line to fall onto a vehicle parked nearby and triggering the second alarm.
