Today is International Day of Education. A girls right to feel empowered to make her own decisions, have access to a full education and to be treated equally in society is a fight I feel impassioned by. Since joining the all female team wearefemlead I have seen first hand how far we still have to go in this fight. At wearefemlead we work within a Ugandan community to actively challenge cultures and attitudes which prevent girls from receiving a full education. The Busiiro community has been hard-hit by Uganda’s COVID-19. Due to schools in Uganda being closed, girls are being restricted to household chores and traditional gender roles are being reinforced, the chances of girls going back to school after COVID-19 are getting slimmer.  The main issues faced during this time, not just by girls in our community but globally across many communities, are: • early/childhood marriage rates increasing • child prostitution, many girls have been forced into prostitution to provide essent...
