Mount Vernon native Rai Benjamin set the tone in his 2024 Paris Olympics debut on Monday, Aug. 5. A two-time medalist in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Benjamin competed for the first time in this year's Summer Games and won his opening round heat in the 400-meter hurdles. He raced in Heat 1 and finished with a top time of 48.82 seconds, after leading for a majority of the way.
