Senior Ellie Loudermilk had gotten to know the college musical theatre audition process well by the time she got to the University of Oklahoma. But this one was different. “The audition was so much fun,” Loudermilk said. “I was in there for 45 minutes, and most auditions are about five minutes, so I already loved the faculty.” In the post-COVID college audition process, high school seniors no longer have to travel to each school individually to audition, and instead have to send in audition tapes. After the digital pre-screens, seniors will hear back from schools and find out whether they get callbacks or not. Loudermilk said she heard back from 18 schools, and was then able to do larger auditions for multiple schools, traveling to Dallas, Texas for six and Chicago, Illinois for 12. Loudermilk plans to study to get her Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre performance at OU’s Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre, the only school of its kind in the nation.
