Last week the unimaginable happened when, for the first time in my career, I was hit in the face by a pitch. Despite a broken nose that would barely stop bleeding and an eye that was swelling shut, I chose to stay on the field. I chose to battle through the pain for many reasons…. For my team. For my family. For the fans. For the city of Baltimore. And because this moment was bigger for me than just a game.
No matter how hard we get knocked down in life, we can always get back up. We can always come back stronger. I’ve always taken pride in being tough and being resilient, so using this moment to fight through adversity and power through was no different.
Being a father of two young boys, I want to set an example for them that no matter what life throws your way, you can always overcome. You can always achieve whatever you put your mind to. It may not be easy, and times may get tough, but deep down, you always have what it takes.
