BIG MOOD
Saturn is a gas giant whose disposition appears to change with the view. Its atmosphere rages with thunderous and hurricane-like storms. Its majestic rings spin a tale of ancient collisions and cataclysms. And its moons may hold secrets to the origins of life.
This image was acquired with the Cassini spacecraft's wide-angle camera on Jan. 30, 2007, at a distance of approximately 1.1 million kilometers (700,000 miles) from Saturn. Each pixel in this image represents a width of 60 kilometers, or 38 miles. This view looks toward the lit side of the rings from about 28 degrees below the ring plane.
Image description: A black-and-white image of Saturn. The planet is lit on one side by the Sun, detailing the stripes of the turbulent storms on the planet. Rings can be seen from the top coming down along the side of the profile of the planet.
