France’s Para Canoe star Nelia Barbosa started kayaking at 12 years old, falling in love with the thrill of whitewaters and the camaraderie with her club friends.
At 19, life took a sharp turn when she was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis, leading to the amputation of her leg. Nelia embraced a prosthetic limb and continued her passion for kayaking. Her hard work paid off at the Tokyo Paralympics, where she bagged a silver medal and became a national hero.
