In 114 years, the Pendleton Round-Up has never seen anyone quite like Jackson Sundown. One of the most fascinating figures in the sport of rodeo, Sundown spent his life defying the odds. Born Waaya-Tonah-Toesits-Kahn (Earth Left by the Setting Sun), the Nez Perce warrior spent his young life fighting for his people and fleeing danger before beginning his rodeo career on a dare when he recorded his first ride in 1910 on a horse the other cowboys couldn’t handle. Over the years that followed, he went on to capture the hearts of rodeo fans with his horsemanship and signature Nez Perce style, changing the complexion of the sport one ride at a time. The bronc rider embodied the bold character Pendleton Whisky is now known for and shaped a piece of True Western Tradition, becoming the first Native American to win a professional world championship at Pendleton in 1916. It’s not just poured. It’s earned. Jackson Sundown knew that better than most. #IndigenousDay #Whisky #WithPendleton #Let...
