Instead of asking an Olympic athlete “Did you get a medal?”… try “How’d you do” or even better “what was your favorite part of the whole experience?” When I went to the Olympics in Rio, just getting there was the podium for me personally. I didn’t expect to medal, yet so many people asked me if I had an Olympic medal and that just made me feel like I let them down when I said no 😞 The Olympics are about SO much more than gold, silver, and bronze. Ask an athlete “what was the best part” and see what they say! The 2028 Olympics are 4 years away. These athletes would never ask you, “so what’s your plan for 4 years from now at your desk job, Tom??” A lot can happen in 4 years. A lot has happened in the last 4 years. I’d encourage everyone to let the athletes enjoy the moment and not ask “are you gonna compete in LA??” Lastly, DEFINITELY let your favorite athletes know if/how their story has impacted your own life.
