almost don’t want to share it 😬
📍Naoshima is a hidden gem that offers a unique blend of art, culture, and nature known as the “Art Island”. Famous for the Yayoi Kusama’s polka-dotted pumpkins, it’s packed with museums and art installations and SO worth the visit!
🚲 What to do
- Rent a bike by the ferry station and explore the island (only takes an hour to bike around)
- Visit museums! Chichu Art Museum, Benesse House Museum, Ando Museum, Lee Ufan - there are many on the island.
- Go to the beach, walk around the island, and support local artists
🏨 Where to stay
Highly recommend mylodge.naoshima - wasn’t too far from the ferry station and the rooms had an incredible view.
🚆 Getting there
We took the Shinkansen from Tokyo, then a local train, then a ferry - took about 4 hours. A bit of a trek, but you can combine it with other cities on the way to make it really worth your while.
