Steve McQueen and his Monaco is one of the most iconic images marrying the world of motorsport and watches. After over 50 years in private hands, we’re thrilled to bring this Heuer Monaco worn by McQueen during the filming of ‘LeMans’ to auction this fall.
The Monaco comes to us with incredible provenance. After being worn by McQueen during filming, it was purchased from the ‘LeMans’ prop master by mechanic Bevan Weston, who was looking after Derek Bell’s No. 8 Ferrari 512 during filming. Weston went on to work for the likes of Lotus and McLaren, wearing the ‘LeMans’ Monaco for 40 years. Notably, Weston was wearing the watch at the 1971 Indy 500 where he helped McLaren and their driver Peter Revson qualify on pole, and finsh 2nd overall.
The McQueen ‘LeMans’ Monaco will star in ‘Heuer Champions’, part of the Important Watches sale at
#SothebysNewYork in December. Fittingly, the watch will be on display during
@rmsothebys auction at Monterey Car Week. Find out more on
