Video Music Box is currently is celebrating its 40th anniversary. For years, the New York City public access TV show brought viewers right into the culture with a uniquely inclusive point-of-view, thanks to host Ralph McDaniels.
Since its creation in the 80s, Ralph McDaniels aka “Uncle Ralph” has utilized the platform to highlight new artists, live performances, behind-the-scenes content, raw interviews, and even footage right from the dance floor. Allowing people to equally be viewers and participants of the show. The YouTube channel (VideoMusicBox1) and Instagram handle (videomusicbox) serve as a major archival library of some of hip-hop’s most significant moments.
