For two weeks, Paris became the center of the world.
Eyes all over the globe were locked onto the City of Light for the 2024 Paris Olympics. With bated breath, audiences witnessed the pinnacle of human strength, skill and teamwork.
But for the athletes, the Olympics were more than just a spectacle. These Games culminated years of hard work and dedication. The battle for the podium could create legacies — or destroy them. And, as mere onlookers, we must recognize the sacrifices that brought these athletes here, as well as the passions that spurred them on.
They competed for themselves, their families, their countries and their causes. But 60 of them also represented their alma mater — UC Berkeley. From the pool to the track, they fought for California.
