Multnomah County health inspectors and Portland police issued no citations to unlicensed hot dog vendors outside music venues last weekend despite a concerted effort to stop illegal activity allegedly associated with the mobile carts. County officials said last week that efforts to get hot dog vendors to voluntarily comply with health codes had failed in recent months. They warned the carts were selling alcohol to minors, too, and said without evidence that some vendors might be victims of human trafficking. Over the past year, county officials said they had shut down four vans dropping off mobile hot dog carts. The county said it again observed unlicensed vendors “at multiple events” over the weekend but this time it opted not to issue citations. “This enforcement was focused on education,” county spokesperson Sarah Dean wrote in an email.
