Talk about heavy metal! 🤘 The Carrie Blast Furnaces, a National Historic Landmark that is part of the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area, is one of the last sites of Pittsburgh’s legendary iron and steel industry. Metal produced at Carrie can be found in iconic structures like the Gateway Arch in St. Louis and the Empire State Building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s hard being metal for life, even when you are a blast furnace. Carrie is experiencing some structural decay that even a power chord can’t fix. That’s where the Save America’s Treasures Grant Program comes in. Today, the Carrie Blast Furnaces is receiving a $580,000 grant from the National Park Service to support large scale structural repairs to the site. This is just one of the 59 projects across the country receiving $25.7 million in total funding today to preserve nationally significant sites and historic collections Learn more about Save America’s Treasures: go.nps.gov...
