I shouldn’t need to explain why overturning Roe v. Wade is bad. We’ve all heard the same arguments over and over — criminalizing them doesn’t stop them, it makes them unsafe. A woman should have the right to do what she will with her body. What to do if a woman is raped? I’m not going to drill home these same ideas that my mother’s mother had to scream her whole life. Obviously, revoking basic rights that women have to their bodies is horrible. But by taking away a woman's basic right that they fought for starting with the criminalization of it in 1880, we are collectively taking 50 steps back to 1973 when Jane Roe challenged Texas. Texas — which seems to have a trend with stealing the rights of women — outlawed all abortions that take place six weeks after conception in September last year.
