On February 10, 2006, the music world mourned J Dilla’s passing—a shocking moment that occurred just days after the release of his instrumental album ‘Donuts.’ Months later on August 22, ‘The Shining’ was posthumously released. At the time of his death, ‘The Shining’ was incomplete. Dilla had been working on the album in the midst of medical treatment and used records brought by his friends and family as sample sources.
