Two new COVID-19 boosters were approved on Thursday. These vaccines are designed to help target recent strains of the virus and any potential variants that may crop up over the winter. Boosters from Pfizer and Moderna are expected to be available nationwide within the next few days. The CDC recommends that anyone six months of age and older should get the new booster, particularly older adults or people who have serious medical issues or weakened immune systems. Pregnant women and nursing home residents are also encouraged to receive the booster as soon as it becomes available. The CDC notes, though, that anyone who has recently had COVID-19 can wait approximately three months after recovery to get vaccinated with the new booster. This is because you have immunity from the infection immediately after having it, and that immunity needs to lessen before the full effects of the new vaccine can take effect. #covid #cdc #news2024
