Jack Benz ’24 is headed nearly 8,000 miles away, to an island in the Pacific Ocean, for a semester of service through the Society of Jesus and CHS Campus Ministry.
“Canisius has raised me in Campus Ministry, and raised me to be a man of service,” Benz said.
Benz leaves Saturday for Chuuk in the Federated States of Micronesia, a country spread across the western Pacific Ocean comprising more than 600 islands. Chuuk is the largest state in Micronesia, and is home to Xavier High School, a co-ed Jesuit school where Benz will serve.
“Campus Ministry has been such a big thing I've been involved in at Canisius, and it's kind of conditioned me to do something like this,” Benz said. “I feel like I'm prepared. I’m excited to do things with the Jesuits.
“I think it'll be a great experience. It's an opportunity that I felt I had to take.”
