KICKOFF AT CHAPARRAL: This morning the cross country team kicked off their season taking on the Westlake Chaparral Invitational. The invitational is one of the biggest meets this season, drawing in teams from all over the state. Varsity teams ran a 5K while JV runners raced on a 2-mile course.
While every new season brings change along with it, the cross country team has new coaches for the second year in a row. Jennifer Warren, Special Education department chair, and counselor Nicollete Muller are coaching the team this year after several years of coaching transitions since longtime coach Susan Ashton retired in 2021.
Upperclassmen, including junior Julia Lentz, have been running through change. This meet, Lentz led the girls’ varsity team with a time of 22:57, finishing first for McCallum and 107th out of 182 runners overall.
“It was hard. The course was not the best, it was really humid, but it was a good start to the season and everyone is going to improve from here,” Lentz said...
