Prairies once covered two million acres of Wisconsin. Today, less than 12,000 scattered acres exist. Prairies are one of the most diverse environments in plant and animal life in North America, and its unique life forms are well adapted to the harsh interior continent climate. Stop by the Wehr Nature Center prairie this time of year to take in this stunning landscape! For parents wanting to teach their children about prairies, there is an excellent book called "Plant a Pocket of Prairie" by Author Phyllis Root and illustrator Betsy Bowen that you can check out from your local library.
