One of the recently passed laws that we'll be covering during tomorrow's youth justice town hall is the Raise the Age (RTA) repeal. After February's special session on crime and public safety and the law becoming effective this past April, #Louisiana is the first state in decades to roll back this protection for our children, which will now treat and criminally prosecute 17-year-olds across the state as adults for an offense as simple as graffiti or shoplifting.⁠ ⁠ The timeline above shows how in such a short time, we've decided that 17-year-olds aren't old enough to vote, buy cigarettes, serve in the military or carry a concealed weapon, but are old enough to be treated as adults when they unfortunately make mistakes.
