Benny is this year’s George Norlin Award honoree, recognized for his lifelong dedication to serving diverse communities nationwide.
As a New Mexico lawmaker, higher education administrator, and tribal leader, Benny has always led with integrity and respect. From his roles as educator and lieutenant governor to state secretary and community advocate, he’s built strong relationships across all demographics.
Benny’s impact extends to numerous boards, including the CU Advisory Committee for Native American Indigenous Studies and the National Caucus of Native American State Legislators. His leadership as chairman of the First Nations Development Institute board further highlights his dedication.
Now, as associate vice chancellor for Native American affairs at CU Boulder, Benny is strengthening CU's ties with Colorado's 48 Tribes and enhancing Native American cultural identity on campus.
