What are prospectors, and why are they such an important part of Apache Junction's history? 🏜️ Long before Apache Junction became the vibrant community we know today, prospectors were searching for gold near the base of the Superstition Mountain in the late 1860s. By the 1880s, they were working small gold outcrops in and around Goldfield Wash (Weeks Wash). These early adventurers left a lasting legacy, which is why we have so many landmarks named after them—like Prospector Park. It's also why our kids at Apache Junction High School proudly carry the name “Prospectors”! 🏆 The Prospector symbolizes our city’s rich history and pioneering spirit, reminding us of the determination and resilience that helped shape Apache Junction.
