A Rice University student was killed in a murder-suicide on the first day of classes. Twenty-one-year-old Andrea Rodriguez Avila was a junior political science and pre-law major who had just transferred from Maryland when she was found dead in her dorm room. Police believe her killer was an unidentified 22-year-old man with whom she had a relationship.
