This tiny, yet striking bird hadn't been documented since 1979 on Mussau Island in Papua New Guinea. During a tour with ornisbirding, this group of birders was shocked to spot the Mussau Triller at the base of a mountain. The Mussau Triller was one of the species that the #SearchforLostBirds, a collaboration between Re:wild, AmericanBirdConserve and BirdLifeInternational, identified on its global list of lost birds. The East Melanesian Islands are a biodiversity hotspot and, following the rediscovery of the triller, are home to 15 lost birds, making the area one of the three highest priority regions in the world for lost birds. 📸: Joshua Bergmark, Ornis Birding Expeditions
