The three months of Spring bring out the revitalization of all things in nature. Trees that have been dormant all Winter are growing and spreading their leaves, animals are coming out of hibernation and mating, and eggs are hatching.
The Spring season corresponds to the Wood element, which rules the Liver and Gallbladder. The Liver, referred to in Chinese Medicine as The General, is about creating plans and making things orderly. The energy of the Gallbladder is about putting those plans into action. It is a good time to start new projects that have been incubating over the Winter months. The Wood phase relates to sinews, tendons, and connective tissue. Exercises that relax and stretch the body such as yoga or Tai Chi are appropriate. As the weather warms, take more frequent walks outside, especially in natural surroundings like parks and gardens. Drinking peppermint and lemon tea is a simple ritual that supports the Liver.
