Your body will heal.
It might not happen as fast as you want it to, as smoothly as you believe it should, or in direct proportion with the effort you’re putting in…but your body will heal if you allow it.
I had an eating disorder for 12 years before I decided to recover. For years leading up to the start of recovery, I would get 1-2 bone injuries a year. Once I decided to recover, I was stuck at low mileage, and continued getting bone injuries about once a year. Honestly, I questioned so many times if recovery would heal my body or if it was too late. I felt like a victim to my past decisions and powerless to control my future.
The only thing I knew with certainty was that my body wouldn’t heal if I gave up on recovery. So I kept trying, and, eventually, I started to see hope. This last year, I felt pain multiple times, but I would cross train for a few days and my body would heal. It’s been 18 months since my last injury (knock on wood), and this has been my highest mileage year...
