Police officers forced their way into an industrial unit outside Birmingham under suspicion it was housing an indoor marijuana growing operation, but to their surprise found 100 computers  🖥 What they had discoed was a massive Bitcoin mining setup. West Midlands Police say the computers were illegally using thousands of pounds of electricity in order to mine Bitcoin on an industrial scale. The mining equipment, which we can estimate as being worth upward of $5,000, was seized, though no arrests have been made. Sergeant Jennifer Griffin said: “It’s certainly not what we were expecting. It had all the hallmarks of a cannabis cultivation setup and I believe it’s only the second such crypto mine we’ve encountered in the West Midlands." If you’re going to mine crypto, please do it under the proper conditions. [📸 : West Midlands Police, via @cnbc]
