#NationalHispanicHeritageMonth
Meet Rosie Escalante '20, an associate attorney at Clekis Law Firm.
UofSCLaw: Do you own any items that represent or remind you of your Hispanic/Latinx culture?
Rosie Escalante: Yes, I own a jewelry box gifted to me by my family in Honduras, and a pair of earrings passed down from the women in my family, beginning with my great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, and now me. These items represent what is most important in my life: family. They are a reminder that I carry with me the dreams and aspirations of previous generations and their ability to overcome obstacles so that I could have the opportunity to pursue my dreams.
UofSCLaw: Why do you think it's important to dedicate a month to celebrating Hispanic/Latinx culture and heritage?
RE: I think it is always important to highlight different cultures that add to the melting pot of the United States of America. There is beauty in diversity, and highlighting it allows us to learn from one another.
