UC Santa Cruz undergrad Kate Wang (Crown ’27, marine biology) spent most of her life on ice. She started figure skating at 4 years old and eventually went to the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics where she placed 13th in the world. Now a second-year marine biology student minoring in statistics, Kate spends much of her time by the water. She’s working towards an eventual Ph.D. to become a researcher or a teacher — because being able to teach is one of her superpowers. In addition to being a full-time student, Kate is also a successful content creator on YouTube. She started making educational mathematics music videos based on complex equations in high school, making AP statistics more fun and understandable. She’s made videos based on Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga songs, reaching hundreds of thousands of views. Oh, and she’s also made a video with NBA basketball player Steph Curry for Snapchat.
