Celebrating in style 🥇 Mauricio Valencia celebrated in traditional fashion after winning gold in the men's F34 shot put at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, biting into his gold medal. He had previously claimed silver in the men's F34 javelin. The Colombian athlete explained that he had his teeth modified to mimic fangs in an attempt to change the stigma towards para athletes. "I didn't want to have the same smile as the rest of the world," Valencia said in 2019. "I've always said that Paralympic sport has to be a show. That means being outside of the stereotype of sitting in a wheelchair.
